Xaio Long Bao is a type of steamed bun (baozi) from China sometimes referred to as soup dumplings. To ensure the optimum tasting of these 8 distinct flavors, one must begin with the original flavor (center) and then work their way clockwise starting with the green one. Flavors are Ginseng, Foie Gras (by far the best), Black Truffle, Cheesy, Crab Roe, Garlic, and then the final one, Szechuan (pink). After biting a tiny hole in the outside to release the steam (but not the liquid or filling inside) and allowing a couple seconds for it to vent, the entire thing is eaten in one amazingly delicious bite. These particular ones were from a 5-star Chinese restaurant in Singapore that a friend treated me too. Nearly two hours and $150 later she and I left there so full we didn’t need to eat for the next 24hrs.
